Corfu is inherently noble and delicate.

The South eastern coast has shallow water, shadowy sandy beaches, small taverns “on the wave”, while the street goes all the way to the beach. It's the ideal case for holidays with your children .

In the Northeast of Corfu there are three tiny islands -Mathraki, Othonoi and Erikousa, which are the first stop to boats descending from the Adriatic Sea. Their shores attract nature lovers.
The Western coasts of Corfu are characterized by vast sandy beaches and some of the most spectacular cliffs. Visitors get a unique sense of freedom, overlooking the endless horizon, with nothing to interrupt their mind trips.
The North-Western coast has immense sandy beaches, i.e. Agios Georgios beach, as well as rocky shores, the most famous being the rocks of Paleokastritsa;, the underwater environment forms several sea-caves, ideal for scuba-diving. 

The endless golden beaches and the shallow emerald water of all the Western and Southwestern coast make visitors feel in Heaven. No matter if visitors are seeking cosmopolitan or secret, peaceful beaches, they are bound to discover their favorite one, to play in the water, to sunbathe or to read a book in peace.
The island of Paxos is famous for its beautiful beaches, beyond any comparison . The natural havens of Lakka , Gai and Mongonissi are crowded with yachts during the summer months. The western coast of Paxos is composed of impressive geological formations, such as sea caves and natural huge cliffs , which you must definitely visit .

Corfu Paleokastritsa beach

There are, perhaps, two beautiful locations in Corfu is Paleokastritsa, and Cape Kanoni near airport and Murine island. Paleokastritsa chose due to the species. Here is a great choice where you can stroll: monastery, offering beautiful views, then you can climb on foot (or take a taxi, and then descend on foot as we did) to the mountain village of Lakones. Water in Paleokastritsa in July was more or less tolerant, but three days was ice that pull the body. 

Paleokastritsa is arguably the most famous picturesque village of the island of Corfu located 25 km northwest of Corfu Town. The word Paleokastritsa literally means old fortress, witnessing the existence of such a castle on the rocky cave where now stands the Monastery of the Virgin. The village of Paleokastritsa offers a plethora of local taverns overlooking the blue bay and six sandy and pebbled beaches which are scattered all around the area. Those beaches are surrounded by olive tree forests creating a dramatic yet beautiful scenery. This cosmopolitan resort stretches along a coastal road around stunning bays and a picturesque harbor where the excursion boats depart for the nearby and isolated beaches. The settlement itself retains its traditional charm and character whereas today it is considered one of the main tourist attractions in Corfu displaying a great number of hotels, bars and restaurant. At the end of the road, right after the main harbor is the Monastery of the Virgin that dominates the village. The monastery hosts an interesting collection of post Byzantine icons, books and other objects. The main beach of Paleokastritsa is quite small but extremely known for its cold waters and delightful environment. It is considered as one of the best beaches in the Greek islands. It is surrounded by many bars and taverns therefore it is rarely quiet during the day. The area offers some excellent sea views.

Паломничество в монастырь Пресвятой Богородицы Касопитры

Посещая Грецию по программе паломнического центра «Солунь» «Святыни Византии», мы приехали на остров Корфу. Надо ли говорить, какое это место! Святитель Спиридон Тримифунтский, как обычно – а мы с нашей группой приехали сюда уже не в первый раз, – встретил нас с любовью. И даровал нам встречу, о которой хочется рассказать особо.

Среди извилистых улочек столицы острова – Керкиры – затерялся небольшой монастырь Богородицы Касопитры. И насколько мал и скромен этот монастырь, настолько большое впечатление произвел он на нашу паломническую группу.

Начнем с того, что в этой обители находятся две великие святыни – икона Богородицы Касопитры и десница священномученика Парфения Лампсакийского. В монастыре нас с любовью встретил игумен, отец Поликарп, и сам рассказал нам историю святынь.

Икона Богородицы Касопитры названа по месту явленного Матерью Божией чуда. Одному отроку , несправедливо обвиненному и ослепленному по приговору венецианского суда , обвинив его в воровстве, которое он не совершал. Его мама, безмерно скобя о страдании сына, горячо молилась Богородице и говорила: «Пречистая, Твоего Сына тоже несправедливо убили, но Он воскрес, а что же будет с моим бедным мальчиком». В ответ на эту мольбу матери Богородица сошла с иконы и вложила свои персты в глаза ослепленному отроку. Мальчик в то же мгновение прозрел, но его новые глаза были другого цвета.

Десница священномученика Парфения – тоже святыня с удивительной историей. Отец Поликарп рассказал, что придя на Афон, а он прожил там восемь лет и был послушником преподобного Паисия Святогорца, он заметил в храме одну темную от копоти икону. Приглядевшись, увидел, что там изображен святой, который держит руку на женской груди. Это был Парфений Лампсакийский. Отец Поликарп очень удивился такой иконографии и стал изучать житие этого святого. Он жил в III веке в городе Лампсаки (ныне на территории Турции) и славился тем, что исцелял от рака. Поскольку рак груди у женщин очень распространен, то множество исцелений от этой болезни стало поводом даже запечатлеть это чудо на иконе святого Парфения. Именно та правая рука, которой святой касался и исцелял болящих, находится ныне в монастыре Богородицы Касопитры.

Насколько известно, монастырь на этом месте существует с 1706 года, до этого здесь стоял древний храм. Отец Поликарп по греческой традиции угощал нас ципурой, вином, кофе, лукумом. И за дружеской беседой рассказывал о своем духовном наставнике – Старце Паисии Святогорце.

«Будучи молодыми послушниками, мы говорили Старцу: сколько плохого вокруг. А он нам отвечал: среди огромного поля цветов всегда найдется место с нечистотами. Муха, сколько бы ни летала среди цветов, всегда сядет на нечистоты, а пчела – она всегда садится на ароматные и прекрасные цветы. А мы сами выбираем – кем быть – мухой или пчелой».

«Еще Старец говорил: хорошо угощать приходящих лукумом и ципурой, как это принято в наших монастырях. Но одно ласковое слово или улыбка – дороже и ценнее, потому что они делают человека счастливым, а угощение услаждает только его вкус».

«Молитва, говорил Старец, должна начинаться с благодарности за то, что мы имеем. Ведь добрый Бог всегда посылает нам Свои великие милости, а потом, после благодарения, можно просить Его и о своих нуждах со смирением, но и с большой верой».
Удивительно, что встретились мы с отцом Поликарпом в день праздника святого Арсения Каппадокийского – духовного отца Старца Паисия. В монастыре Касопитры хранится частица мощей святого Арсения, к которой нам посчастливилось приложиться.

Здесь же хранятся ковчеги с мощами многих святых, среди которых великомученик Целитель Пантетеимон и великомученик Георгий Победоносец.

Свидетелями удивительного чуда стали все мы в маленьком единственном храме монастыря Касопитры. Ежегодно одна благочестивая женщина перед Великой Пятницей плетет венок, которым украшают большое Распятие Спасителя в алтаре. После великих дней венок засыхает, но не весь – на нем продолжают цвести цветы в течение всего года до следующей Великой Пятницы, дня, в который его сжигают, заменив новым венком. Один раз отец Поликарп попросил женщину сплести два венка – один поместили, как обычно, на Распятии, а другой – просто в храме. Венок в храме засох полностью через несколько дней, а венок на Распятии Спасителя продолжает цвести. Это мы видели своими глазами.

Окрыленные покинули мы маленькую гостеприимную обитель Богородицы Касопитры, где по милости Божией благодаря отцу Поликарпу получили столько святых впечатлений! Но встреча эта останется в сердце на всю жизнь.
